Your spine is made up of 24 moveable vertebrae between your skull and pelvis whose function it is to allow for an extraordinary amount of motion in many combinations of directions while you run, sit, sleep, reach, lift, check behind you etc while simultaneously protecting the exquisitely sensitive and vital spinal cord and nerves which transmit information from your brain to your body and back again to control and regulate the functions and health of the body.  The spinal joints may be injured, misaligned or lose proper function as a result of poor posture, poor muscle tone, accidents and injuries.  Damage may be from a 1 off incident such as a car accident or may be cumulative over the many falls, knocks, bumps and bad habits of a lifetime.  Chiropractic care primarily is concerned with the restoration of health, alignment, posture and function of those 24 moveable bones and recognises that with proper alignment and function the body has an increased ability to work as it should.

Chiropractic care for babies is often sought out to alleviate common issues such as colic, torticollis, and difficulties with breastfeeding.  It may also help to promote overall wellness and development by ensuring that the spine and other structures are properly aligned and functioning optimally. Some parents choose chiropractic care for their babies as a natural, drug-free approach to healthcare.  Dr Luke has done extra training in the care of infants and is very experienced with the assessment and management of babies.

Growing up comes with its challenges for the developing spine and nervous system.  Poor posture, falls, sporting knocks and injuries can lead to stress and strain on the spinal structures and delicate nervous system.  It is very common for kids and adolescents to develop a range of health concerns such as poor posture, back pain, growing pains, night pains, cramps, headaches, migraines, scoliosis to name a few which may be due to poor posture and spine function.  Adolescents also begin making their own choices about lifestyle which can further compound their health challenges.   Assessment and correction of spine and posture with gentle, precise chiropractic care combined with age appropriate nutrition and lifestyle advice will give your children the best opportunity.  Enquire with our team today and have your children professionally assessed – start future proofing their health.  Dr Luke enjoys seeing kids and adolescent patients as this is the best time to change their future health.

Pregnancy is an exciting time when you need extra care and attention on your health.  It is not without its challenges for the rapidly changing spine, hips and pelvis.  The different stages of pregnancy lead to loosening of the ligaments, changes in weight distribution and vulnerability to injuries in the spine, hips and pelvis.  Chiropractic care is commonly sought due to back pain, pelvic and pubic pain, headaches and general advice on the health of the mum and baby.  Many mum's to be aim to minimise their need for pain medications that may impact the developing baby.  Dr Luke is very experienced with pregnant patients and enjoys assisting them through this special time.

Dr Luke Smith is one of the few Australian chiropractors who has completing the official Blair technique training.

Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic is a specific technique that focuses on correcting misalignments in the upper cervical spine, which includes the top two vertebrae in the neck. This technique uses precise measurements and gentle adjustments without any twisting or popping to restore the proper alignment of the spine and improve overall function of the nervous system. It is based on the belief that the body has the ability to heal itself when the spine is properly aligned and the nervous system is functioning optimally. Many people seek out Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic for relief from a variety of conditions, including:

  • Dizziness
  • Meniere's
  • Jaw pain
  • Migraine
  • Facial and cranial nerve pain conditions (ie: trigeminal nerve pain)
  • Neck pain
  • Back pain
  • Post traumatic brain conditions
  • Concussion related conditions
  • Sciatica
  • Scoliosis

Gonstead chiropractic is a chiropractic technique developed by Dr. Clarence S. Gonstead in the 1920s. It is a highly specific and detailed approach to chiropractic care that focuses on the individual needs of the patient. The Gonstead method involves a thorough evaluation of the spine and the nervous system, including a detailed analysis of posture, spinal x-rays, and other diagnostic tools. Treatment typically involves gentle, precise adjustments to the spine to restore proper function and alignment. The Gonstead approach is based on the belief that the spine is the foundation of the body's overall health and that correcting misalignments in the spine can have a positive impact on overall health and well-being.

Functional medicine is a form of healthcare that focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of diseases and conditions, rather than simply treating the symptoms. It involves a holistic approach that considers the interplay between genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors and their impact on an individual's health. Practitioners of functional medicine use a variety of diagnostic tools and treatments, including dietary changes, supplements, and stress management, to support the body's natural healing processes and promote optimal function.  Theymay  work with patients over the long term, helping them to make lasting changes to their diet, exercise, and other lifestyle factors to improve their overall health and well-being.
